Box Score ADRIAN, Mich. – Albion College survived match point in the fourth set, but it was unable to take a lead in the fifth as it went down to defeat against Adrian College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association contest.
Albion took the early lead in the match by winning the first set, 25-21. Jessica Konieczny produced a kill and assisted on a block to cap a six-point run as Albion turned a 6-4 deficit into a 10-6 lead. Albion never trailed the remainder of the set, though the Britons were clinging to a 16-15 lead midway through the set. Stephanie Thurner knocked down a kill and an Adrian attack error pushed the Albion lead to 18-15. Rachel Spencer terminated a couple of points to keep Albion in the lead by three points.
Adrian won the second and third sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-21 and the Bulldogs were serving for the match leading 25-24 in the fourth. A service error tied the fourth set at 25 and Spencer scored blocks on the next two points as Albion forced a fifth set.
Adrian scored five of the first six points in the decisive fifth set. The Bulldogs went on to take the set, 15-11.
Lauren Outwater led the Britons with 14 kills and 15 digs. Spencer added eight kills, two solo blocks and a block assist. Konieczny contributed seven kills, a solo block, and three block assists.
Adrian's Jordan Brisson led all players with 21 kills. Linnea Berriman and Jacolyn Mullins added 11 kills apiece.
Albion will take a break from its league schedule when it competes in the Manchester Invitational Friday and Saturday.
