Box Score ALBION, Mich. – Albion College Coach Eric Scott said his team's 1-1 draw with Kalamazoo College at Alumni Field on Tuesday afternoon is an example of the parity among the women's soccer teams in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association this season.
"Neither team wanted a tie," Scott said.
Albion remained unbeaten at home this season with the draw. The Britons are 5-2-1 overall and 1-2-1 against league rivals.
Albion controlled possession early and it took the first four shots of the contest. Sam LaRocca placed three of shots on goal in the first 14 ½ minutes and Domenique Sarnecky and Caroline Eagan also forced Kalamazoo goalkeeper Lucy Mailing to make saves.
It was a substitute, however, that struck for the goal. Morgan Button pounced on a rebound in the 31st minute for her first goal of the season.
"I thought we started way better than our last game," Scott said, referring to the Britons 3-1 setback at Adrian College last Saturday. "We did well as a young team to match their athleticism."
Kalamazoo controlled possession for long stretches of the second half as the Hornets produced 13 shots. Rachel Dander scored the equalizer in the 55th minute, but the Albion goalkeeper Cameron Schmidt frustrated the Hornets by making three saves.
Schmidt also stopped a shot by Kalamazoo's Jenna Sexton in the second overtime period.
Molly Hancock was credited with Albion's only shot on goal in overtime.
Albion has another home game against a MIAA rival at 12 p.m. Saturday when it challenges the side from Calvin College.
