Box Score ALBION, Mich. – Kyle Alsheskie scored two goals and he made the play that led to an own goal as Albion College earned a 3-2 victory over Olivet College on the first day of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's soccer contests.
Alsheskie scored twice in a contest for the second time in his Briton career and the first time since a 3-1 win over Olivet on Oct. 15, 2011.
"Kyle keeps finding a way to put the ball in the back of the net," Albion Coach Jerry Block said. "He's on a nice roll and we hope that continues."
Albion's 1-0 halftime lead evaporated as Zach Schulz and Austin Dunn struck in the second half. Block admitted Olivet was controlling the match until Alsheskie placed the ball in the box which led to the own goal that leveled the score at 2-2 with 14 minutes left in regulation.
"We continued to plug away," Block said when asked how the Britons stemmed the tide. "Sometimes you need a little luck to go your way and Kyle sent in a really great ball that caught a defender moving toward his own goal, and all of a sudden there is life in our team.
"Small moments change games in this sport and that was one of them," Block added.
Albion took the overtime kickoff and Bobby Budlong sent the ball from the right side of the field to Alsheskie for the winning score 16 seconds into the period.
"We found a way to win," Block said. "I love the character of our team after going down 2-1 and losing control of the game. It was a huge victory in a lot of different ways for us."
Alsheskie and Budlong combined to take 11 of Albion's 13 shots in the contest.
Albion, winners of its last two to move its record to 3-3 overall, will hit the road for its next three contests. The road trips begin Saturday when the Britons challenge the side from Alma College.
