Morrison Begins Heptathlon Competition

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Angela Morrison may be competing in the heptathlon for the first time, but you would never know it based on the day one results from the Viking Olympics at Augustana College.

A sophomore from Westland, Morrison racked up 2,122 points by turning in season-best performances in all four events contested Friday night. She had the third-best 200-meter time among her heptathlon competitors by reaching the finish line in 27.56 seconds. She was fourth in the 100 hurdles (17.92 seconds), fifth in the high jump (4' 8 ¾") and seventh in the shot put (26' 5 ¾").

In events that were scored Friday night, Albion's team of Stephanie Norwood, Khalia Royster, Haley Wallis, and Megan Winkler was fifth (1:58.23) and Maicey Peterson was eighth in the pole vault when she made her third attempt at 9' 8".

Head Coach Lance Coleman noted Alyssa Wright and Abby Voglewede achieved personal records in the hammer throw.

The meet continues at 10 a.m. Central Time Saturday with the completion of the heptathlon (long jump, javelin throw, and 800 meters). The first running event – the 5,000 meters – is set to go off at 12 p.m. CT.
