Box Score ALBION, Mich. – Tim Urso, Zach Hubbell and Brad Bogus combined for nine goals in the first half as Albion College celebrated its home opener with a 17-3 victory over DePauw University in a non-league men's lacrosse contest.
"Those guys stepped up and had quality days," Albion Head Coach Jake DeCola said after his team improved to 3-0 on the young season. "One of our goals was to beat them to hard to get ground balls. I was happy with the way our midfielders and attackers were riding and we did a fine job on face-off."
Albion led 13-0 midway through the third quarter Hubbell's extra man goal.
Kyle Roberts and Ben Sherman scored for DePauw in the third and Eric Speer added a goal in the fourth.
"Dave Brown and Matt Spinney set the tone at close defense," DeCola said. "They made it tough for their attack to get going."
Kyle Formanczyk was the Britons' goalkeeper for the first three quarters. He made seven saves before giving way to first-year student-athlete Brandon Tata in the fourth. Tata stopped three of the four shots he faced.
"The bench helped us today," DeCola said. "There was a lot of enthusiasm."
Hubbell finished the day with four goals and three assists, while Urso was credited with four goals and one assist. Bogus had three goals and one assist. Cameron Braun chipped in with two goals and three assists. Dylan Neal tacked on two goals and Joel Hedemark and Harrison Palmer collected one goal apiece.
Next for Albion is a Wednesday road trip to Granville, Ohio, for a 5:30 p.m. contest against 20th-ranked Denison University.
