Albion Works Too Fast

Box Score

ALBION, Mich. – Albion College ranks among the Division III men's lacrosse scoring leaders, but it was not able to keep pace with the College of Wooster Tuesday night. Albion was outscored 8-2 in the final quarter and it suffered an 18-15 loss to the visiting Scots in a non-league men's lacrosse match.

Matt Parmelee scored his fourth goal of the night as Wooster forged a tie at 15 with four minutes remaining in the game. Nate Weltman's only goal of the night – with 3:39 left – proved to be the game winner. Pat Henderson, who led all players with six goals, and Max Rubin closed the scoring.

Albion appeared to be in control early in the third quarter. Joe Braley scored his 12th goal of the season to boost the Britons to a 10-5 lead.

"We have to learn that a lacrosse game starts in the first quarter with 15 minutes on the clock and it usually ends in the fourth quarter with no time left," Head Coach Jake DeCola explained.  "The game isn't over until the game is over."

A goalie change by Wooster at halftime proved to be the turning point in the game. Albion never seemed to adjust to Ben Grombala in the second half. After scoring nine goals in the first half Albion only managed to score six goals in the second.

"We decided to get away from some of the things that helped us be successful. We moved away from working the ball offensively and into a fast-paced transition game pushing things that were not there," DeCola said. "All of a sudden we started changing what we were doing and that came back to hurt us."

Tim Urso led the offensive attack for the Britons scoring five goals. Most of the goals scored by Urso were assisted by Zach Hubbell who had five assists on the night along with one goal to score six points. Alexander Dziewit generated four goals. Cameron Braun also produced a hat trick for the Britons.

Next up for the Britons is a Saturday home match against Trine University at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium. The match begins at noon.
