ALBION, Mich. – Slowed by first quarter turnovers and penalties throughout the contest, Albion College still managed to pull away for a 15-5 victory over Trine University in its final regular season home contest.

Albion (8-5 overall, 4-0 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) will try to put the finishing touches on its first league title next week with contests at Hope College and Alma College.

The Britons paused to recognize the seven seniors (Joe Braley, Alexander Dziewit, Kyle Formanczyk, Joel Hedemark, Joe Silvestri, Matt Spinney and Tim Urso) who were playing in their final regular season home game before the contest.

Albion committed four turnovers and it held a slim 3-2 lead after the first quarter.

"The turnovers were the result of emotions related to senior day," Albion Head Coach Jake DeCola said. "It has happened to us every year we've had a senior day. I'll take those turnovers because the players care about our program.

"Trine did a great job of slowing our transition game with long possessions," DeCola added. "We were slowed down by penalties but we survived it pretty well."

Hedemark scored twice and Braley and Zach Hubbell tacked on goals in the second quarter as Albion extended the margin to 7-3 at halftime.

Albion continued to pour it on in the second half, outscoring Trine 8-2.

The seniors collected nine goals for Albion. Dziewit finished a six-point day with three goals and three assists. Hedemark produced three goals and an assist. Braley had two goals and an assist. Urso contributed one goal and one assist.

"The effort of the seniors was great today," DeCola said. "Wazzy (Dziewit) showed he's one of the best players in our league."
