GREENCASTLE, Ind. – Divers Jake Burris and Henry Swett shined as the Albion College men's swimming & diving team challenged nationally ranked non-league rivals Saturday.
Albion, ranked 21st in the Division III survey compiled by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America, was defeated by No. 7 Washington (Mo.) University, 221-77, and No. 13 DePauw University, 175-122.
Burris scored 288.65 to win the 1-meter competition with Swett in second (249.10) and Jake Maurer in fourth (233.50). Swett (263.90), Burris (250.50), and Maurer (230.30) were the top three in the 3-meter competition.
Albion's best swimming performance was a runner up finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Bosko achieved a split of 46.78 as the Britons finished in 3:12.88, six tenths of a second off the pace set by Washington University. Sebastian Tostado gave Albion the early lead in the race with a 48.81 leadoff split. Tostado was followed by Len Ciemniecki and Parker Belmore.
Albion also sent a handful of swimmers to Alma College for a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual meet. Albion won the meet, 160-60. Winning events for the Britons were the 200 medley relay (Nick Burris, Hunter Jackman, Matt LePalm, and Eron Hill), the 400 freestyle relay (Ryan Underwood, Burris, Chris Breen and Hill), Breen in the 1,000 freestyle, Underwood in the 100 and 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly events, Burris in the 100 and 200 backstroke events, Jackman in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and 400 individual medley events, Hill in the 50 freestyle, and O'Shea Swinton in diving.
Next up for Albion is a Nov. 4-5 quadrangular meet hosted by Calvin College.
