Box Score ALBION, Mich. – Albion College will go back to the drawing board after absorbing a 1-0 setback for the second time in as many tries.
Wednesday, Cal Kirchen scored the lone goal as Kalamazoo College escaped the Davis Athletic Complex with a 1-0 victory over the Britons.
Joshua Robison slipped a ball through the Albion backline, and Kirchen's shot found the bottom right corner of the goal.
Albion registered only one shot on goal, but it did have a pair of glorious scoring chances. Will Colborn hit a laser from the outside with a minute and a half left in the first half, but the shot didn't sink far enough and clanked off the crossbar. In the second half, Bobby Budlong played a dangerous cross into the box, but Erik Vanfossen couldn't get his head on the ball.
In the end, Kalamazoo had a 7-6 edge in shots. Budlong was credited with two shots for the Britons.
Albion completed the first round of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play with a 4-3 record against league rivals. The Britons begin the second half with a Saturday match at Trine University.
