Box Score ALBION, Mich. – Alex Sorenson and Matt Cappelletti hit 3-point baskets on consecutive possessions as 13th-ranked North Central College built a 12-point lead late in the game as it walked out of Kresge Gymnasium with a 68-57 victory over Albion College.
Albion whittled an 11-point deficit to six with 6:23 to play. Corey Wheeler made two baskets, Jason Zahran scored an old fashioned 3-point play and Kirk Douglas tacked on a pair of free throws as Albion trailed 56-50.
Neither team led by more than three for most of the first half. Aiden Chang made a pair of free throws and Sorenson added a layup as the Cardinals surged to a 33-26 halftime lead.
Jagger Anderson converted a pair of steals into layups on the first two possessions of the second half as North Central extended the margin to 37-26.
Wheeler fell a rebound shy of a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds. Douglas and Zahran added 12 points apiece.
North Central placed five players in double figures, led by Anderson's 15.
Albion (2-5 overall) will play for local bragging rights at 5:30 Monday when it travels to Spring Arbor University.
