GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – It will take time to update the Albion College record board inside the Dean Aquatic Center after the performances by the Britons in Friday action of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships.
Nate Kozycki, a first-year student-athlete who prepped at Northview High School (close to the site of the championship), won the first league title of his career when he completed the 100-yard butterfly in 49.34. He edged Calvin College's Jared Britton (49.48) and Brett Stoughton (49.6) for the win.
Gerardo Huidobro and Sebastian Tostado set school-record times in runner-up finishes in their respective events. Huidobro finished the 400 individual medley in 4:06.07. Tostado matched Calvin's Brandon Muma stroke-for-stroke and touched the wall in 1:40.05, 11-hundreths of a second behind Muma.
Tostado, Huidobro, Kozycki and Derek Bosko started the night with a runner-up finish in the 200 medley relay. The Britons school record time was 1:30.54.
Parker Belmore reached the final of the 100 backstroke, finishing fourth in 51.46.
In consolation heats, Nick Deppner took first in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. He finished ahead of Nick Smith (10th) in the backstroke and Nick Burris (13th) in the fly. Sean Pearce and Justin DuChene finished 12th and 16th, respectively, in the 400 IM. Tom Parsons was 12th in the 200 freestyle. Hunter Jackman and Lucas Harder were 11th and 14th, respectively, in the 100 breaststroke.
