ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Jessica Shaw owns one of the fastest times in Division III in the 10,000 meters at this point of the season after a school-record performance in the Washington University Invitational.
The Albion College junior from Allegan, Mich., was fourth in the overall standings, completing her race in 35:45.91. She finished behind a runner from Murray State (NCAA Division I), Maryville University (NCAA Division II) and Hannibal-LaGrange (NAIA).
According to Derick Lawrence, Albion's assistant track & field coach and head cross country coach, Shaw improved her school record by more than a minute and she set the third-fastest 10K time ever by a woman representing the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
In other events, Morgan Button set a time of 19:08 in the 5,000 meters. Leaha Sinnaeve achieved a time of 19:50.70.
First-year runner Kaitlyn Davis was fifth in her heat (27th overall) in the 1,500 meters, setting a time of 5:16.81. Teammates Leanne Wegley (5:23.23) and Kendra Cook (5:44.12) ran in other heats.
Albion will travel to Delaware, Ohio, next Saturday to compete in the Marv Frye Invitational.
