LAWRENCE, Kan. – Mac Robertson made a splash in his collegiate debut as the top Division III swimmer to finish the five kilometer course in the College Swimming Coaches Association of America Collegiate National Open Water Championship.
Robertson, who prepped at Zeeland East High School, finished 14th in the field of 33 swimmers. He crossed the finish line in an hour and six minutes.
"Mac finished about where he was supposed to," Albion Head Coach Jake Taber said. "He settled in and gave himself a chance to be in the thick of things."
Kyle Harvey and Sebastian Tostado were separated by 24 seconds, with each finishing in an hour and 11 minutes.
"This race fits Kyle's strengths," Taber said. "He didn't try to do too much too early. He continued to get stronger as the race went on.
"This is a long swim for Sebastian," Taber said of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association champion in the 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard individual medley. "For him to race for more than an hour is a testament to his natural gifts as a swimmer."
