Box Score ALBION, Mich. – An energized and organized Albion College squad took advantage of the few scoring opportunities generated by either side and it came away with a 2-0 victory over Alma College at the Davis Athletic Complex.
Alma, ranked 10th in the latest NCAA Division III Central Region rankings released by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, came in third in the nation with a 0.24 goals against average. The Britons generated just five shots on goal in the contest, but Steven Lockhart and Bobby Budlong were able score. Budlong's score – his third of the season – in the 63rd minute only happened because he was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time.
"We played our game. We knew if we brought high intensity and moved the ball quickly we would be confident," Budlong said. "Everyone – even the guys who came off the bench – was giving everything they had. The goal is when people are substituted into the match they bring intensity."
Alma tested Briton goalkeeper Justin Kraft three times, but Kraft was up to the challenge to achieve Albion's second clean sheet in four contests against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rivals this season.
"We've put in great effort to get to 3-1, and now we're looking forward to what's next, a Tuesday night date with Hope College," Budlong said.
Albion hosts Hope Tuesday night at 7 o'clock at the Davis Athletic Complex.
