Fourth quarter rally falls short

Box Score

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Anne Marie Wright buried a 3-point basket from the right wing with six seconds remaining to lift Spring Arbor University to a 55-54 victory over Albion College in non-league women's basketball action Tuesday night.

Albion trailed by as many as seven in the fourth quarter, but it rallied to gain a 53-52 lead on Rain Hinton's basket with a minute left.

The Britons pushed the margin to 54-52 when Brittany Leutz hit the second of two shots from the free throw line.

Jami Hubbard scored four points and Sam Carter and Tierra Orban tacked on 3-point baskets as Albion surged to a 12-5 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Albion didn't have a good shooting night – it made 26 percent of its attempts from the field – and it could never pull away from Spring Arbor.

Carter led the Britons starting unit with 11 points, eight rebounds and six steals. Hinton fell a rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. Leutz also finished with 10 points.

Spring Arbor's Autumn Goggin led all players with 17 points.

Albion, 7-2 overall, travels to Indiana on Thursday for an important regional game against Franklin College.
