MARION, Ind. – Angela Morrison and Nia Thomas are starting the outdoor track & field season at the high level they finished the indoor season as Albion College competed in the Polar Bear Invitational at Indiana Wesleyan University.
Morrison, the first student-athlete to represent Albion in the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship, achieved a personal record when she completed the 400-meter hurdles in 1:06.63. She also competed in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.55 meters (the equivalent of 5' 1"), and anchored the 4x100 relay that finished third in 51.61 seconds.
Thomas, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association indoor champion in the long jump, finished a half inch behind the event winner. She sailed 5.55 meters, or the equivalent of 18' 2 ½", on her fifth attempt. Thomas also competed in the 100 meters, finishing seventh with a run of 12.71 seconds.
Another personal record was set by Alyssa Barnett. She finished the 400 meters in 1:02.42, good for fifth place.
Coach Lance Coleman noted T'Ana Smith had a collegiate persona best in the 100 hurdles (15.81) which was real good early season race for her.
Abby Voglewede continued her great throwing of the discus with a toss of 106' 11", and Khaila Royster competed well with a second place finish in the triple jump.
Maicey Peterson had a busy day, clearing the pole vault at 10' 4" to finish third and running on the 4x100 relay. Marisa DeCamp was fifth in the pole vault at 9' 8".
Albion will split the squad next weekend, sending the distance runners to a meet hosted by Washington (Mo.) University while the rest of the squad travels to Alma College.
