GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Jessica Shaw and Nia Thomas won Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association titles in their events and Emilee Kinney set the top qualifying time in the 100 meters as Albion College is off to a fast start in the league's outdoor track & field championship meet.

Shaw, a senior from Allegan, Mich., captured her first career league championship, winning the 10,000 meters in 37:30.84. Allison Snyder achieved a personal record (37:54.59) in finishing third.

Thomas, a sophomore from Hawai'i, was third going into the finals of the long jump, but she sailed 17' 6 ¼" on her first attempt in the final round to become the first woman to win league indoor and outdoor championships in the event.

Kinney qualified for Friday finals in the 100- and 200-meter sprints. She set a time of 12.72 seconds in the 100 and 26.50 in the 200. Tyra Thomas-Spratley will join Kinney in the 200 after qualifying eighth in 27.10.

Albion will have three runners at the start in the 100 hurdles tomorrow. Angela Morrison set the third-fastest qualifying time (15.19), with Maicey Peterson fourth (15.32) and T'Ana Smith eighth (15.90).

Morrison battled the conditions to clear the high jump at 4' 11" to finish fifth.

Albion also collected a point in the discus throw when Abby Voglewede finished eighth with a throw of 110' 5".
