Burris gains honorable mention All-America status

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Albion College diver Jake Burris secured the third honorable mention All-America award of his career Wednesday, finishing ninth in the 3-meter event on the first day of the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championship.

A junior from Chelsea, Mich., Burris led the field after five rounds of preliminary dives. He was awarded 51.60 points on his first attempt, a forward 2 ½ somersault. His fourth attempt – a reverse – earned scores of 7 and 7 ½ from the judges and netted him 41.80 points.

Burris finished 12th in the preliminary, but moved up to ninth in the final five dives in the consolation round. His final score was 489.05.

Nate Kozycki will be on the blocks tomorrow for the 100-yard butterfly and he will join Len Ciemniecki, Tyler Kimbrell and Alec Nyboer for the 400 medley relay.
