Box Score ALBION, Mich. – Albion College held Elmhurst College 10 goals under its season average Saturday afternoon, but the Britons didn't generate enough scoring of their own to pull out the victory.
Albion had three possessions to score the tying goal in the fourth quarter, but it came away empty in a 6-5 loss in its final non-league tune up.
Albion, 2-6 overall, jumps into Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action next Saturday with a home contest against Calvin College. Face-off is 7 p.m. inside the Davis Athletic Complex.
Ty Funderburk scored three first half goals to power Elmhurst to a 5-2 halftime lead. The Bluejays extended the lead to 6-2 when Mac Harden scored 18 seconds into the third quarter.
Albion got goals from Brandon Lebioda and Ryan Lemanski in the third quarter and Alec Palmer midway through the fourth.
Lebioda and Palmer finished the day with two goals each.
Sophomore goalkeeper Trevor McManus nearly stole the game for Albion, stopping 71 percent of the shots he faced. He finished with 15 saves.
McManus received support from the defense which was credited with causing 11 turnovers. Conner Wysong caused five turnovers and collected three ground balls alone.
