Albion advances to MIAA MLAX Tournament title game

ALBION, Mich. – Albion College maintained its status as the only team to advance to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men's Lacrosse Tournament championship game every year, dominating Trine University Thursday night for a 20-7 victory in the semifinal game played at the Davis Athletic Complex.

Albion, 3-2 in its previous five championship game appearances, will play for the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Championship Saturday night when it travels to Holland, Mich., for a rematch with MIAA regular season champion Hope College.

Alec Palmer and Anthony Zugaro produced two goals each as Albion achieved a 7-5 lead before play was suspended by lighting Wednesday night.

Zugaro scored two more goals in the third quarter and he dished out assists on goals by Scott Shepard and Brady Lawrence in the fourth. Zugaro finished the contest with four goals and three assists.

Shepard scored three goals Thursday night, giving him four for the contest.

Quinn Dobrzelewski dominated the faceoff, finishing with 21 groundballs. He also recorded his first goal at the collegiate level on a breakaway after winning the faceoff.
