ALBION, Mich. – Jake Huttenlocher won the breaststroke events and Albion College won the butterfly events in a 152-148 loss to Hope College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's swimming and diving dual meet at the Dean Aquatic Center.
Huttenlocher dominated the breaststroke, setting a time of 58.71 in the 100-yard event to reach the wall nearly 3 ½ seconds ahead of his next closest competitor. Huttenlocher completed the 200 yards in 2:12.82 to finish nearly seven seconds ahead of the runner up.
Gerardo Huidobro edged teammate Drew Fogel by three-tenths of a second in the 200 fly. Evan Wonner set a time of 53.72 seconds to win the 100 by two-tenths of a second.
Albion started the meet with the lead after swimming to first and second in the 200 medley relay. Ian Moran, Mac Robertson, Cole Nelson and Brendan Ritchie set the winning time of 1:37.98. Kurt Jolly, Conner Robertson, Nate Cobb and Declan Tharp were second at 1:40.70.
Albion set up an exciting finish as Tharp and Connor Robertson were the top two finishers in the 200 IM to have the 400 free relay decide the meet. Tharp set the winning time of 2:01.06.
Albion will return to the Dean Aquatic Center for a 6 p.m. dual meet against Kalamazoo College.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.
