Davis hits late threes as Britons tame Tigers

Box Score

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Jamezell Davis, Jr. knocked down 3-point baskets on consecutive possessions late in regulation to lift Albion College to a 63-61 victory over DePauw University in an opening round game of the Don Lane Classic.

Davis tied the score at 59 with a shot with 1:06 left, and after DePauw misfired on a shot to take the lead, he tamed the Tigers with a deep "three" that put the Britons in front, 62-59, with 11 seconds left.

Davis finished with 16 points, hitting 6-of-12 shots from the field, and a team-best four assists.

Frontcourt mates Quinton Armstrong and Caden Ebeling powered Albion on a 6-0 run as it erased a 55-50 deficit with less than seven minutes to play. Armstrong's layup put Albion on top, 57-56, with four minutes left and neither team led by more than three from that point on.

Ebeling scored 13 of his 19 points in the first half when he made all six of his shots from the field. He finished shooting 8-of-10 and he pulled down seven rebounds.

Armstrong chipped in with 15 points – shooting 6-of-10 from the field – and he grabbed eight rebounds. He had the hot hand in the second half, making all five of his shots, and scoring 12.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu
