Albion coach Nick Stone knew that Friday would be perhaps the strongest day for his team in the MIAA Swimming & Diving Championship at the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids.
He was right.
Using several school record-setting performances, the men surged to first place while the women remained in third but within striking distance of a Briton sweep.
"To be honest, this day was just short of amazing," Stone said. "They stepped up and set numerous best times and they made up points where they needed to. They swam out of their and it was truly a team effort."
Leading the way was the men's 200-yard medley relay of Cole Nelson, Tyler Kimbrell, Evan Wonner and Len Ciemniecki, which won its first relay in two years and set a school record while doing it.
Kathryn Henning also set a school record in the 100-yard breast stroke, finisihing second in her race, and the women's 200-yard medley relay team of Rileigh Eding, Tia Ulieme, Allison Dasky and Henning also set a school record.
Other winners for the Britons were Samantha Swingewood in the 400-yard individual medley; Evan Wonner in the 100-yard butterfly; Eding in the 100-yard butterly and Kimbrell, who won the 100-yard breast stroke for the fourth straight year.
The meet wraps up tomorrow and Stone says his team will again have strong events to bank on.
"I'm super pumped about tomorrow," he said. "It is going to be tough for the women, but if anyone can do it, it's them."
