Angola, Ind. - The women Britons competed well and finished 2nd at the MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. They were lead by high scorers Layla Wilks and Alexis McGinley. Both performed exceptionally on the way to 20 point days. Layla was a double winner. For the third consecutive year, she won the 60m and 200m dash. Wilk's winning time (7.90) breaks her old conference record. Alexis was a very fast runner up to Layla in both the 60m and 200m dashes. She also finished 5th in the long jump. Alexis' performances in all three events were personal bests.
Layla and Alexis were not alone in racking up big points. Cianna Brown (13.5), Emily Kinser (11.5), and Chalara Sutton (10.5) also earned double-digit points. Cianna returned from injuries to place 3rd in the triple jump, 4th in the long jump, 8th in the 400m, and anchor the third-place 4x400m relay. Senior Emily Kinser had her best collegiate competition. She placed 5th in the 60m dash and 3rd in the 200m dash, both personal best performances and ran a leg on the 4x4. Chalara completed an extremely difficult day in the long sprints. Running a personal best and placing 3rd in the 400m from the slow heat, placing 6th in the 200m dash, and running a leg on the 4x400 relay.
Some other noteworthy performances for the Brits were Senior Karen Carroll continued her improvement in the pole vault. She tied for 2nd with a personal best vault of 9' 6.25". Continuing in the field, Ashlee Dubois exploded up the Albion College all-time top 10 list in the triple jump. She placed 2nd with a jump of 10.50m. A final impressive performance in the field was by Anna Albaugh. She used personal bests to place 5th in the shot and 6th in the weight.
Our distance runners also had quality performances. In the 5000m first-year Megan McCulloch placed 5th. To kick off the day's running, the women's placed 4th in a school-record time (13:14.30). The team was composed of (Kenna Childress, Laura Tuttle, Samantha Bieth, and Jordan Revenaugh.
The 2nd place finish is the best ever for the women in the five years of MIAA indoor competition. With 5 season's bests and 15 personal best at this competition, they have much to be happy about.
This week the Britons travel to Alabama to train and compete at the University of Alabama at Huntsville.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.
