ADRIAN, Mich. -- Back on the mats for the first time in over 40 years, the Albion College men's wrestling team had an incredible showing at the Adrian College Invite. Highlighting the day were the Albion heavyweights, as
Owen Miller won the weight class, defeating teammate
Christopher Krum in the title bout.
Miller was a perfect 4-0 on the day at 285, earning a major decision before pinning his next two opponents (2:06, 1:35). Squaring off against Krum, the junior gritted out a 2-0 decision over his teammate.
On the other side of the bracket, Krum pinned his first opponent in 1:09. The freshman then went on to pick up 7-0 and 4-2 wins before dropping the title match, taking second in the weight class.
Freshman
Owen McDaniel had a solid performance at his first collegiate meet. McDaniel took home fourth place at 184, picking up a major decision in his first bout before a 12-7 win. A fall in 6:59 put him in the third place match, dropping the semifinal match to a Heidelberg wrestler.
At 141,
Ty Cowen finished the day 4-1. Cowen lost his first match before winning the next four out of the consolation bracket, including a 16-0 tech fall.
Max Honiss put together a 5-1 afternoon. The freshman slipped in his first match, eventually rattling off five straight victories. His final three victories all came via pins (4:37, 3:21, 5:55).
Daniel Mills went 2-2 at 174, earning a 9-7 victory in his first bout of the day.
Boden Brown went 1-2 at 197, including a pin in 54 seconds. Also going 1-2 were
Jordan Tutt and
Chris Mills. The pair gritted out 7-6 wins for their lone victory of the day.
Joshua Stokes was 0-2 at 184.
The Britons will be back on the mats in two weeks for their home invitational. The multi-mat event, hosted in the Dow Recreation and Wellness Center, will host both men's and women's squads.
