ALBION, Mich. -- After plenty of changes within the past 48 hours, the Albion College swimming and diving teams excelled in their home pool, defeating Olivet College in a dual meet. The women's squad won, 193-57, and the men's team cruised to a 217-52 win.
Senior Jake Huttenlocher broke a pool record in the 100 yard breaststroke, clocking in at 57.77.
Junior Samantha Swingewood also broke a pool record that stood for nearly three decades in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:08.33.
Sage Gettings was the other Briton to set a new pool record on Saturday, clocking in at 57.45 in the 100 yard butterfly. She also won the 200 yard free with a time of 2:02.74.
In the 200 yard medley relays, both Albion squads took first place. The women's quartet of Emily Merucci, Courtney Swingewood, Samantha Swingewood and Sarah Griffiths finished in 1:56.67. With a time of 1:36.39, the men's team of Connor Robertson, Jake Huttenlocher, Evan Wonner and Declan Tharp turned in a solid showing.
Junior Elizabeth Cavataio won the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.36.
Kurt Jolly won the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 58.18. He narrowly edged out teammate Brendan Ritchie who was just behind him at 58.81. Anthony Hopkins took third in the event for the Britons.
Amani Lopez-Dunlap took first with a time of 1:26.41 in the 100 yard backstroke. She and Merucci also finished 1-2 in the women's 200 yard backstroke.
The women's team went 1-2-3 in the 200 yard butterfly, with Griffiths, Angela McCauley and Bryn Cavanaugh leading the Brits. The men's team performed the same sweep of the event, led by Nate Cobb, Cole Nelson and Nick Johns.
Wonner (21.80), Joe Krzciok (22.81) and Ritchie (23.34) went 1-2-3 in the 50 yard free.
AJ Zako won the men's 200 yard free with a time of 1:48.36. Drew Fogel was just behind him in second, clocking in at 1:51.08.
Freshman Russell Brown won the 1650 yard free while Ashley Ketchum and Alayna Hackman finished second and third in the women's event.
Emily Snyder's time of 58.4 earned the freshman a win in the 100 yard freestyle. Ketchum was third in the event, finishing at 1:01.05. Cobb, Krzciok and Nelson went 1-2-3 on the men's side in the 100 yard free.
Katy Henning won the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:40.57. Connor Robertson was second on the men's side, touching the wall at 2:21.79.
In the men's 200 yard backstroke, Anthony Hopkins won with a time of 2:14.33.
Wonner, Tharp and Jake Huttenlocher swept the top three spots in the 100 yard fly.
Cavanaugh won the women's 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:30.49.
In the 400 IM, McCauley and Katie Flynn took home second and third. On the men's side, Noah Mitchell, Fogel and Brown added a top three sweep for Albion.
Both the men's and women's freestyle relay teams won their respective events. The women's team was led by Gettings, Snyder, Griffiths and Hannah Erickson while the men were paced by Krzciok, Wonner, Jake Huttenlocher and Tharp.
Sophomore Justin Huttenlocher scored a 250.10 in the 3m dive, while Jonathan Cronick scored a 194.45. On the women's side, Lindsey Walicki scored a 151.35 and Sarah Stone finished with a 140.25.
In the 1m dive, Huttenlocher turned in a performance that scored him a 272.45 and Cronick scored a 191.45. On the women's side, Stone scored a 179.35 and Walicki added a score of 167.30.
This was the final tune-up for both squads before the MIAA Championships. The women will compete in the two-day event beginning on Mar. 4 and the men will follow a week later.
