Box Score ALBION, Mich. -- With an energetic and dominant performance, the Albion College men's basketball team kept its conference record spotless with an 86-52 win over Kalamazoo College. Winners of three straight, the Brits improve to 6-2 overall, 3-0 in the MIAA.
A pair of 17 point nights by Caden Ebeling and MJ Barnes paced the Briton offense. Ebeling was near-perfect from the floor, turning in an 8 of 9 shooting night. After missing the last four games, junior MJ Barnes shined, scoring 17 points in just 20 minutes of action.
Junior Devin Holmes had another great night on the glass, hauling in 11 rebounds. He is now averaging 6.9 rebounds per game. Barnes and Mark Tocco each finished with four assists.
It didn't take long for Albion to jump to an early lead, scoring the first 11 points of the contest. A big three by Jaylen Ross set the tone early for Albion, who would hold a 10-point advantage midway through the first half.
With 7:41 remaining in the first, a Kalamazoo bucket cut the Abion lead to eight. The hosts immediately responded with a 9-3 run over the next four minutes to increase their lead back to 14. During that stretch Albion got significant minutes from its bench, led by Barnes.
At the break, the Brits led 41-23.
With all of the momentum, the hosts kept inflating their lead in the second half. Albion would build its lead to as many as 34 points.
Using size to their advantage, Albion shot nearly 60 percent from the floor (34 of 57) while outscoring the Hornets in the paint, 44-12. Albion's defense worked to force Kalamazoo to take poor shots or commit shot clock violations.
12 of the 15 players who entered the game scored. The three that didn't record a point recorded at least one steal, assist or rebound. With Albion able to rely on its bench, the hosts recorded a 47-14 advantage from its non-starters.
On Saturday, Albion will travel to Olivet College for the second half of a men's and women's doubleheader. Tip off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
