Box Score ALBION -- They couldn't have scripted it better.
On Senior Night, the Albion College men's basketball team exploded for 95 points in a 95-56 win over Adrian College. The Britons have now won five straight, improving their record to 8-2 overall and 5-0 in the MIAA.
Junior Cortez Garland had another remarkable performance, scoring a game-high 21 points and draining four 3-pointers. Caden Ebeling recorded his third double-double of the season, scoring 18 points and bringing down 12 rebounds. The senior also dished out a game-high five assists.
With 12 points, Devin Holmes registered a new career-high. The junior also hauled in eight rebounds. MJ Barnes was the other Briton in double figures, adding 10 points off the bench. Ken Thomas grabbed eight boards in just 10 minutes of play.
A rejuvenated Adrian squad hung tough in the first half. Clinging to a two point lead,, the Britons rattled off 10 straight points for a 12 point lead with 2:22 before halftime. Albion was great at the foul line, making six of six free throws in that stretch.
A late three off the hand of Justin McAbee secured a double digit lead for the Britons at halftime. The hosts led 39-27 at the break.
Out of the half, Albion found its offensive rhythm, as much-needed triples from Barnes and Garland increased the Briton lead to over 20 points. Albion would keep the momentum for the remainder of the game, sending its seniors out with a win.
The best shooting team in the conference kept pace, shooting 42 percent from the floor, including 40 percent from deep. Led by Ebeling, the Britons dominated the inside game, outsourcing the Bulldogs in the paint, 44-24.
Adrian committed 16 turnovers which led to 27 Albion points. The Britons also capitalized on missed opportunities, adding 23 second chance points. Both Jaylen Ross and Garland finished with three steals apiece.
Prior to the game, Albion honors seniors Ebeling, Ross, Juwan Perry, Quinton Armstrong and student assistant Jared Fife.
"I'd like to thank the five seniors for all of their time, energy and hard work throughout the last four years," said head coach Jody May. "Not only have these seniors enjoyed many successes on the court, these seniors will be very successful when they are done at Albion. We are just so thankful to everyone for allowing these seniors to compete in their final year."
On Saturday, Albion will have a tough test when they try to avenge a Feb 6 loss at No. 3 Trine. The Thunder is the only other undefeated opponent in MIAA play. Tip off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
