Box Score ALBION, Mich. -- Four goal nights by Kierstin Rose and Destiny Okon propelled the Albion College women's lacrosse team to a 14-12 win over Calvin University. Okon and Rose each scored in the final four minutes to seal the win for the Britons.
Albion improves to 4-2 overall as Calvin slides to 1-4.
An early Calvin goal was answered by a pair of free position goals from Rose. Albion extended their lead when Addie Pastor found the back of the net with 19 minutes before the half. Following a Calvin goal, Chrystelle Lopez capitalized on a free position shot for a 4-2 Albion advantage. Lopez recorded five points in the win.
The Knights tallied two more goals before senior Abby Sheklow scored to make it a 5-4 game. With 11 seconds before the half, the visitors tied the contest at five where the samed score remained at the half.
The second half turned into a back and forth affair, featuring 13 ties or lead changes. Calvin struck first in the new half before Okon and Lopez put the Brits back in front. All four of Okon's goals came in the second half.
Knotted at eight, Okon and Carly Schwarz provided Albion with a two goal lead. In a two minute span, the Knights responded with three goals, taking an 11-10 lead with 8:13 to play. Lopez tied the game back at 11 courtesy of a free position shot.
Off a clear, Sheklow laced a perfect pass to Rose, who found the back of the net for an Albion lead with six minutes left. Less than 30 seconds later, Calvin once again tied the game up at 12.
Okon gave the Britons the lead for good with 3:51 to play on a free position shot. Rose, a senior, supplied Albion with an insurance goal 22 seconds later with a shot off an awkward angle.
Junior goalie Alexis Robinson (4-2) was terrific between the pipes, notching 15 saves for the Brits. She also picked up four ground balls and made some key saves down the stretch.
Schwarz caused three turnovers in the win. Lopez tallied five draw controls while Okon registered four.
Albion was 7 of 13 on free position shots. Calvin was just 4 of 10.
With five points on Saturday, Lopez has now taken the lead in the MIAA for points (32). With just 51 goals allowed, Albion currently ranks second in the conference. Robinson, along with senior defenders Natalia Catanzarite and Paige Dredge play a large part in keeping opponents off balance offensively.
Albion will be back in action on Mar. 21 when they host St. Mary's. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
