Box Score ALBION -- With 14 seconds on the clock, the Albion College women's lacrosse team had one final chance at the game-winning goal. They capitalized.
With two seconds on the clock, Carly Schwarz had an open shot. She capitalized.
Schwarz's dramatic goal off a feed from Chrystelle Lopez sealed a 17-16 win over St. Mary's College on Sunday afternoon. The Brits close out non conference play with a 5-2 record, as they prepare to host Trine on Wednesday.
Junior Destiny Okon scored a team-high five goals, dished out one assist and had six draw controls. She also caused four turnovers -- one of which was with 14 seconds to give Albion the ball back. Lopez added four goals and four assists -- including the assist on Schwarz's game winner.
Less than two minutes in, Schwarz and Addie Pastor gave Albion a 2-0 lead. The Belles answered with three straight goals. Goals from Kierstin Ro9se and Okon put the Britons back on top, but on the next St. Mary's possession, the Belles evened the game at four.
Albion responded by scoring the next five goals -- three from Okon and one each by Abby Sheklow and Keiley Black. The teams traded goals before the Belles stormed right back, closing out the final 10 minutes of the first half on a 5-1 run.
With 1:02 before the break, Lopez regained the lead for the Brits as they took a 12-11 lead into halftime.
After an explosive first half, the two teams, who played little to no substitutes, combined for just 10 goals in the second half.
With 4:55 to play, Sheklow found Okon to tie the game at 16.
The Belles had an opportunity to clear and take the lead with 36 seconds to play. After the Belles called a timeout, the Albion defense went to work, slowing down St. Mary's. Okon and Sheklow double teamed the St. Mary's midfielder, causing her to step out of bounds and give the ball back to the Brits with 14 seconds left. The turnover set up the goal by Schwarz off a feed from Lopez, who drew four defenders.

Albion was 22 of 28 on the clear. The Brits struggled to capitalize on free position shots, converting just three of nine.
Albion will host Trine for the first conference game of 2021 on Wednesday. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
