Box Score 2 ALBION, Mich. -- In their MIAA opener, the Albion College softball team split a twinbill with Adrian College. The Brits gritted out a 1-0 in the opener before dropping the nightcap, 6-3.
Albion moves to 4-2, 1-1 on the young season while Adrian improves to 5-4, 1-1.
GAME ONE: Albion 1 Adrian 0
The lone run of the ball game came in the bottom of the third inning when Lilly Patillo lifted a sac fly to center to plate Kenadie Baareman.
Sophomore Ashley Pion was stellar in the circle. Pion threw a complete game shutout, fanning eight and allowing just four hits. Pion has walked just one hitter through 21 innings of work this season.
GAME TWO: Adrian 6 Albion 3
Batting as the visitors, the Brits got out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Baareman was plunked to lead off the game, and Palasek reached on an error. With two runners aboard, Patillo laced a single to center, scoring Baareman and giving Albion the early lead.
Adrian scored a run in the bottom of the first to even the game at one.
Albion added a run in the second. Skyler Herman lined a leadoff single to left after a 14 pitch at bat. She later came around to score on an infield single slapped by Felicia Maximiuk. Similar to the first inning, the Bulldogs answered in the home half of the frame with a run, tying the game at two.
Albion scored its final run in the top of the fifth. A pair of Adrian errors helped Baareman come around to score in the third, giving the Brits a short 3-2 lead.
The Bulldogs erupted for four runs in the bottom of the fifth. After a double and an RBI single, Adrian had evened the game at three.
With the game tied at three, the Bulldogs opted for a pinch hitter. Chy Cluck sent a three run home run over the left field wall to put Adrian ahead, 6-3.
Albion is currently slated to host a tripleheader on Friday. At noon, the Brits will play Olivet, Olivet will play Kalamazoo in the middle game and Albion will play the Hornets in the final game.
