Box Score ALBION, Mich. -- A complete team effort helped the Albion College volleyball team defeat Adrian College, 3-1, on Wednesday evening. Three Brits finished with double-digit kills to improve to 2-0 overall, including a perfect 2-0 mark in conference play.
Junior middle Chloe Webber led the offense with 14 kills. Freshman Olivia Alexander set a career-high in just her second collegiate match with 12 kills and 11 digs. Reigning MIAA Athlete of the Week, Kate Winter, added 11 kills for the Britons. Hannah Miller registered a game-high five total blocks.
Libero Jenna Khoury registered 23 digs in the win. Ava Smith tallied 12 and Kameron Haley added 10.
Senior setter Grace VanDorn dished out 22 assists. Freshman Mariah Brenz contributed 14.
In a back and forth first set, the Bulldogs scored the final three points to take a tight 27-25 win.
With the Britons holding a 23-19 lead in the second set, Adrian stormed back to even the set at 23. A kill by Shelby Palmer gave the ball back to Albion and one point away from evening the match. An Adrian attack error gave the Britons a 25-23 win and tying the match.
The Britons cruised to an easy 25-14 win in set three. With the Brits leading 15-12, the hosts went on a 6-0 run to build their lead to double digits. In that stretch Brenz, Miller, Alexander and Winter all recorded kills. Albion committed just two attack errors in the set, swinging at a .312 clip.
With the fourth set tied at 15, Albion used a small run to take a late lead. Kills from Winter and Webber secured the 25-17 win for the Brits.
The Bulldogs struggled, hitting at just a .085 mark.
Albion will travel to Hope College on Friday for a 6:30 p.m. match.
