Box Score 2 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- After a historic win in game one, the Albion College softball team fell in game two, splitting a non conference twinbill. The Britons run-ruled Hope College, 11-0, in the opener, before falling to Calvin University, 6-0.
With the win over Hope, it marks the first time Albion has defeated the Flying Dutch since Apr. 9, 2011.
GAME ONE: Albion 11 Hope 0 (5 innings)
Two big innings is all it would take to give the Brits the five inning victory. In the top of the second, Lauren Beougher drove a one out triple to right. After an infield single and stolen base by Kenadie Baareman, the Britons had two runners in scoring position.
Albion scored all five runs with two outs, as Shanyn Jewell slapped an opposite field single, driving in both runners.
After a big day on Friday, Felicia Maximiuk continued her tear with a single to right. Olivia Palasek reached on a fielder's choice. Hope could not record an out on the Palasek fielder's choice, loading the bases for Skyler Herman. The senior drew a walk for the third run of the frame.
Sophomore Lilly Patillo smoked a two run single to right, pushing Albion ahead 5-0.
Palasek led off the fourth with a single and moved to second when Herman walked. Patillo reached on an error, loading the bases for clean up hitter Grace Connolly.
The senior delivered a two run double, inflating the lead to 7-0. Two batters later, Baareman drove a triple to the opposite field, bringing in both Patillo and Connolly.
A pinch hit single by Mickala Signor pushed across Baareman for a 10-0 advantage. The final Albion run came via single off the bat of Palasek.
Baareman was a perfect 3 for 3 in the game, driving in two. Connolly, Jewell and Patillo all recorded three RBI in the game.
Sophomore pitcher Ashley Pion (4-1) extended her scoreless innings streak to 20. She threw all five innings, striking out nine in the win. Her 0.64 ERA is second in the conference
GAME TWO: Calvin 6 Albion 0
After exploding for 11 hits against Hope, the Briton bats went cold in the nightcap, mustering just two hits off the Knights.
Calvin scored three in the top of the first and tacked on three more in the sixth to distance themselves from Albion.
Melanie Cosens (3-2) suffered the loss in the circle for the Brits.
Albion will have a week off before traveling to Trine University on Apr. 3 for a conference doubleheader. Game times are slated for 12 and 2 p.m.
