Box Score ALBION -- Closing out non conference action, the Albion College men's lacrosse team defeated Calvin University 18-9. Junior Jace Conley had another impressive night, scoring seven goals and adding one assist. The seven goals ties a career-high for Conley.
Sam Puzevic scored a hat trick and dished out three assists as well for the Brits. Bear Nelson caused a career-high eight turnovers while Joey Tatar caused five.
The Britons cruised to a 6-0 lead after one quarter. Eddie Symons kicked off the scoring for the Brits before Ethan Rottell followed it up with an unassisted score of his own. A pair of Puzevic goals along with goals by Timmy Salinas and Gerald Haadsma gave Albion a 6-0 lead after one.
Early in the second quarter, Conley scored his first goal of the night to push the lead to 7-0. After two Calvin goals, Conley and Haadsma struck again, with the Britons ultimately leading 9-4 at the half.
Two Conley goals to lead off the new half increased the advantage to 11-4. Albion controlled the momentum, holding onto a 13-7 lead heading into the fourth. From there, the Britons tacked on five more in the final period to secure the non conference win.
Junior Jack Gogonis made three saves in goal.
Albion improves to 6-1 overall. With 39 goals and 56 points, Conley leads the MIAA in scoring. Rottell's 19 assists puts him in a tie for the conference lead.
The hosts forced Calvin to commit 30 turnovers in the contest. The Brits were also an efficient 21 of 24 on the clear.
The Britons will host Trine on Saturday for the first conference game of the year. The game has been pushed up, and will now begin at 1 p.m.
