Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- A second half letdown cost the Albion College women's lacrosse team in a 13-12 loss to Calvin University. The Britons drop their first conference game of the season, slipping to 9-3 overall, 4-1 in the MIAA.
The Britons held a 9-3 lead at halftime. Calvin closed out the final 15 minutes of the game on a 5-0 run to steal the win.
Abby Sheklow got the Brits on the board first with a goal less than three minutes into the contest. After Calvin tied it up, two straight goals from Carly Schwarz gave the Britons a 3-1 lead. Schwarz finished the game with five goals and an assist.
Holding a 3-2 lead, two goals from Schwarz were combined with a goal by sophomore Addie Pastor to increase the Albion lead to 6-2. Two more man-up goals from Pastor and the fifth of the half by Schwarz gave Albion a 9-3 lead at the break.
With an upset on the horizon, the Knights held all the momentum in the second half. The final 15 minutes, the hosts turned a 12-9 deficit into a 13-12 advantage to erase Albion's hopes at a perfect MIAA season.
Schwarz and Destiny Okon caused five turnovers each. Alexis Robinson made 12 saves for the Britons.
Albion was 2 of 7 on free position shots.
The Britons travel to another tough MIAA opponent -- St. Mary's -- on Saturday. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
