GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- October 27, 2009. "Down" was the top song in America, Paranormal Activity was sweeping the box offices, and members of the current Albion College men's soccer team were between the ages of five and eight years old.

It was also the last time the Britons beat Calvin University … until Tuesday night.

In arguably their biggest upset of the decade, the No. 8 seeded Britons knocked off No. 1 seed Calvin, 2-1, in the first round of the MIAA Tournament.

It was Albion's first win of the year, and it couldn't come at a more perfect time, as the Britons move on to face Trine University on Thursday.

Albion held a 1-0 edge at the half, thanks to a penalty kick from Jason Warras. The goal came in the 42nd minute, giving the Brits momentum heading into the new half.

The visitors kept that momentum, as Moses Jatta intercepted a Calvin pass and found the lower left 90 to put the underdogs up, 2-0 just five minutes into the new half.

Calvin, winners of the last six MIAA Tournaments, would not go away, as they found the back of the net with just under four minutes to play. The Albion back line held tough, sending the Britons to the semifinals.

Senior Maximilian Loria made eight saves in the win. Calvin outshot the Britons, 22-9, in the match.

Albion will travel to No. 4 seed Trine on Thursday. Game time is still TBD.
