Box Score 2 KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- In MIAA action, the Albion College softball team split a pair of games with Kalamazoo College on a snowy Tuesday. Albion moves to 12-12 on the season, 4-6 in conference action.
GAME ONE: Albion 8 Kalamazoo 2
Shanyn Jewell worked a walk before Lauren Beougher sent the first pitch of her at bat over the wall in left for a quick 2-0 lead.
In the second, Lilly Patillo worked a 4-pitch walk and was lifted for pinch runner Olivia Polak. With two away, Olivia Palasek continued her hot hitting with a single through the left side, pushing Albion's lead to 3-0.
Another walk came around to score in the fourth, as Palasek led off the frame with a walk. She moved to second on a sac bunt and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Two batters later, she scored on another Hornet wild pitch.
Both of Kalamazoo's runs came in the fourth inning.
After the Brits went scoreless in the fifth -- the only inning they did not score -- Albion pushed two across in the sixth. A Beougher walk followed by a Grace Connolly single put runners at the corners. Skyler Herman reached on a fielder's choice to drive in Brougher and extend the lead to 6-2. Another RBI groundout in the frame -- this one by Kacy Rossi -- game Albion a five run lead.
A Jewell sac fly in the seventh capped off the scoring for Albion.
Sophomore Ashley Pion (8-5) picked up the win in the circle. She struck out eight while walking one.
GAME TWO: Kalamazoo 2 Albion 1
It was a pitcher's dual in game two, as no runs scored until the sixth inning. The Hornets got two runs off three hits for a 2-0- lead heading into the bottom of the inning.
Batting as the home team, the Britons cut the lead in half in the bottom of the seventh. Herman singled, moved to second on a fielder's choice and advanced 60 feet on a wild pitch. Jewell singled home the senior for a 2-1 game. Albion could not push across the tying run, as the Hornets came away with the split.
Pion (8-6) went six innings, striking out five.
UP NEXT
Albion will host Kalamazoo on Thursday to wrap up the conference slate with the Hornets. Game times are scheduled for 3 and 5 p.m.
