Box Score 2 ALMA, Mich. -- On a rainy Saturday in Alma, the Albion College softball team was swept by Alma College, 2-1 and 7-2. Albion dropped an extra inning heartbreaker in game one before falling in the second game.
GAME ONE: Alma 2 Albion 1
Alma got on the board first with a solo home run courtesy of the leadoff better.
Olivia Palasek broke up the no-hitter with a leadoff double in the sixth. After moving to third on a sac bunt, Palasek scored on a single off the bat of senior Lauren Beougher. The one run was all the Brits would get in the frame, as the visitors stranded two runners.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Scots had the winning run at second, but a big punch out by Ashley Pion sent the game into extras.
The Scots used a leadoff single to their advantage in the eighth, eventually scoring the game-winning run with two away in the inning.
Pion (8-7) threw 7.2 innings for the Britons, striking out five. In game one, she eclipsed the 100 strikeout mark for the season.
GAME TWO: Alma 7 Albion 2
Similar to game one, the Scots got on the board first in the nightcap. Batting as the visitors, Alma used a triple and two Briton errors to jump out to a quick 2-0 lead.
Albion answered right back with two runs in the home half of the frame. Palasek worked a leadoff walk and stole second. Beougher reached on an error, allowing Palasek to score and cutting the deficit in half. Sophomore Lilly Patillo singled to left, driving in Beougher to knot the game up after one inning.
In the third, Alma erupted for three runs off four hits -- two for extra bases. The Scots held a 5-2 edge after two and a half innings. The three run cushion would be enough for the win, as Alma would tack on two more in the seventh.
Albion slips to 14-14 on the year, 4-8 in the conference.
The Britons will host Hope on Wednesday for an MIAA doubleheader. Game times are scheduled for 3 and 5 p.m.
