ALBION -- In MIAA action, the Albion College softball team split a twinbill with Hope College on Wednesday afternoon. The Brits took game one, 8-2, before dropping the nightcap, 7-0.

GAME ONE: Albion 8 Hope 2

Helped by 11 hits and three Hope errors, Albion cruised to a big lead early on. Olivia Palasek led off the game with a double to right center and moved to third on a wild pitch. Three batters later, she was driven in by Grace Connolly with a single to left.

Albion broke for four runs in the bottom of the second. Mya Nummer legged out an infield single and moved to second on a throwing error. The error allowed for Kenadie Baareman to score, who led off the frame with a triple.

Singles from Palasek and Lauren Beoougher drove in Nummer, boosting the lead to 3-0. With two on, Connolly lifted a fly ball to center. The ball was dropped by the Flying Dutch, allowing a pair of unearned runs to score and giving Albion a 5-0 lead after two.

In the third, Palasek smoked her third hit of the game with a two-run double. Albion's scoring was capped off when Lilly Patillo smacked a single to left, plating Beougher.

Sophomore Ashley Pion (9-8) tossed a complete game in the circle. She allowed just four hits while allowing a pair of runs and striking out five.

GAME TWO: Hope 7 Albion 0

In the nightcap, the story was all Hope, as the visitors scored six runs in the first three innins to secure the win. Albion tallied just five hits in the loss.

The Britons will wrap up regular season play on Saturday afternoon when they host St. Mary's College. Game times will be at 1 and 3 p.m.
