Box Score 2 ANGOLA, Ind. -- It was a tough day for the Albion College softball team, dropping two to Trine University on Saturday afternoon. Late runs by the Thunder cost Albion in a 3-1 game one loss, before slipping 16-3 in the nightcap.
GAME ONE: Trine 3 Albion 1
With the bases loaded and one away, Lauren Beougher slapped a single to the opposite field, driving Kacy Rossi who reached on a walk.
Trine finally got to Ashley Pion (4-2) in the fifth with a two-run home run, vaulting the hosts ahead. The Thunder tacked on an insurance run in the sixth courtesy of a solo home run.
The Britons mustered just two hits in the game, coming off the bats of Skyler Herman and Beougher. Albion struck out 14 times in the loss, leaving five runners on base.
Pion scattered five hits over six innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out five.
GAME TWO: Trine 16 Albion 3
Trine put up a 14-spot in the first inning and the Britons were unable to recover. All three Albion runs came via the long ball, with homers by Herman and Grace Connolly.
Out of the 16 Thunder runs, only three were earned.
Albion moves to 7-5 overall, 1-3 in the conference.
Albion will travel to Calvin on Tuesday for a MIAA twinbill. Games are scheduled for 3 and 5 p.m.
