SANDUSKY, Ohio — Make it five wins in a row for the Albion College volleyball team.
In the first game of the Battle at the Point, the Britons defeated Ohio Wesleyan University, 3-1.
KEY STATS
Senior middle
Chloe Webber led the offense with 14 kills. She also had four total blocks and three service aces.
Playing six rotations, sophomore
Olivia Alexander had another double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs.
Kameron Haley was outstanding, recording 13 digs in the match. Senior
Ava Smith led the defense with a career-high 20 digs.
Dishing up the offense was
Mariah Brenz and
Grace VanDorn. Brenz dished out 31 assists while VanDorn added 10.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The opener set was a tough test for Albion, as neither team truly gained momentum. Late in the set, Albion gained enough of an advantage to put them at set point. A kill by
Jenna Schienke sealed a 25-21 set one win for the Brits.
Albion opened the second set on a 5-0 run — highlighted by three aces from Haley. The run propelled the Brits to take control of the set and eventually win, 25-17, sealed with an ace by Webber.
The Battling Bishops held all the momentum in the third set, winning 25-19.
Albion found its groove again in the fourth, cruising to a 25-17 win.
UP NEXT
The weekend only gets tougher for the Volleybrits, as Albion will face off against Denison and Wittenberg on Saturday. Both teams have been receiving votes in the AVCA poll. Matches are scheduled for 12:30 and 4:30 p.m.
