SANDUSKY, Ohio -- Facing off against a pair of tough opponents, the Albion College volleyball team dropped the final two matches at the MIAA/NCAC Battle at the Point. The Brits fell 3-1 to Denison University before being swept by Wittenberg University. Both the Big Red and the Tigers received votes in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll.
Denison attacked just over 100 points better than the Britons, as Albion struggled offensively all day. Senior
Chloe Webber was stellar in the middle, racking up 18 kills at a .484 clip. Fellow middle
Jesse Hepner had nine kills in both matches on the day.Â
Mariah Brenz (22 assists) and
Grace VanDorn (16 assists) dished up the offense.
Ava Smith led the defense with 12 digs, while
Kameron Haley added 11.Â
In the second match, Wittenberg attacked at a stout .301 compared to Albion's .149. The Britons committed eight service errors in the match to go along with five Tiger aces.Â
Sophomore
Kaylynne Nicholson led Albion with 11 digs. Brenz finished with 15 assists, as Hepner was the team-leader in kills.Â
Albion will host Franklin on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match.
