VanDorn eclipses 1,000 digs, VB sweeps Franklin

ALBION -- Backed by impressive performances by Chloe Webber and Jesse Hepner, the Albion College volleyball team swept Franklin College to end a two-game slide. In the first set, senior Grace VanDorn eclipsed the 1,000 career dig milestone.

Webber ended the night with 10 kills, attacking at a .625 clip. Fellow middle Hepner contributed eight kills at a .583 mark. Sophomore outside Olivia Alexander tallied a game-high 11 kills in the match.

Sophomore Mariah Brenz dished out 23 assists while VanDorn added nine. Defensively, Ava Smith led the team with nine digs.

Albion had 10 service aces in the match -- three from Brenz. On serve receive, the Britons committed just two errors.

After the Brits let Franklin to come within two points, kills from Kaylynne Nicholson and Hepner along with a Brenz ace inflated the Albion lead. Holding a 21-17 advantage, the hosts rattled off four straight points, sealed with a kill by Hepner for a 25-17 opening set win.

Albion cruised out to an 11-3 lead in the second set, as three kills by Alexander highlighted the rally. With Smith back to serve, the Britons bolstered the lead to 20-7 , aided by plenty of Grizzy errors and a pair of Nicholson kills.

Following a commanding 25-13 win in the middle set, the Brits used another hot start in the third set to complete the sweep. Webber capped off the night with a kill in the middle, securing the Albion win.

The Britons improve to 6-3 overall as the Grizzlies drop to 4-5 on the young season.

Webber now sits second in the MIAA in total blocks (33).

Albion travels to Illinois this weekend for three matches hosted by Wheaton College. The Brits will play Benedictine University at 9 p.m. EST.
