WHEATON, Ill. -- Efficient hitting was the key to the Albion College volleyball team's 3-0 win over Benedictine University on Friday night. With the win, the Brits improve to 7-3 overall on the young season.
With 11 kills,
Olivia Alexander led the attack. The sophomore swung at a .409 clip in the sweep.
Mariah Brenz dished out 17 assists while adding five kills. Another sophomore, Brenz finished with a .625 attacking percentage.
Kaylynne Nicholson recorded a team-high nine digs while
Grace VanDorn contributed 10 assists.
Senior middle
Chloe Webber had four total blocks, three service aces and six kills.
Dominant from the start, Albion exploded to a 10-3 lead in the opening set. The Britons held all the momentum throughout the set, building off Benedictine service errors. The set ended in a 25-17 win off a Benedictine attack error.
Another early run -- this one 10-2 -- helped pace the Britons in the second set. The set was capped by a service ace off the left hand of
Jenna Khoury, giving the Brits another 25-17 victory.
Trailing 11-10, Albion used a four-point swing to take the lead for good. The run was built off Benedictine errors and a service ace by
Ava Smith. Alexander secured the win for the Brits with a kill, giving Albion a 25-15 win.
The Britons will close out their Illinois trip on Saturday afternoon. Albion will play Wisconsin Lutheran followed by host, Wheaton. Games are scheduled for 12 and 2 p.m. EST.
