ALBION -- Home court: defended.
In their home opener on their shiny new court, the Albion College volleyball team defeated Manchester University in four sets. After a sloppy first set, the Britons handily defeated the Spartans in the final three sets, including a 25-11 margin in the final set.
KEY STATS
A pair of sophomores recorded double-doubles.
Kaylynne Nicholson attacked at a sparkling .306 clip, while slamming a team-high 15 kills and racking up 15 digs.
Olivia Alexander totaled 14 kills and 12 digs in the match.
Mariah Brenz dished out 33 assists as
Grace VanDorn added 18. Libero
Kameron Haley tallied 12 digs for the Britons.
Both Alexander and
Chloe Webber had a team-high three service aces in the match.
The first set was sloppy for the Britons, but the hosts found their groove in the second set.
In each of the final two sets, Albion exploded with early runs, giving themselves plenty of distance from the visitors in the match. Both runs were sparked by Haley and
Ava Smith serving.
In the decisive fourth set, Manchester struggled offensively, hitting at just a -.069 mark. Albion on the other hand, swung at a .375 clip in the set. The Brits attacked at a .290 mark for the match.
100 CLUB
Prior to the match, Albion honored head coach and alumna
Kristin Slamer-de St. Aubin for earning her 100th win back in the spring.
UP NEXT
Albion will participate at the Battle of the Point over the weekend. The Brits will play Ohio Wesleyan on Friday evening at 7 p.m. The event will be held in Sandusky, Ohio.
