Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Reed's 27 not enough in tight battle with Trine

ALBION – Despite a well-fought contest, the Albion College women's basketball team found themselves at the wrong end of a 69-56 decision to No. 5 Trine University. Lolo Reed was nearly unstoppable, scoring a career-high 27 points while grabbing nine rebounds in 38 minutes of work.

With 3:52 to play in the first, Albion held an 11-8 edge before the Thunder closed out the period on a 5-0 run. After one, the visitors led by a slim 13-11 margin.

Trine used a monstrous second quarter to outscore Albion 23-8 and build a sizable lead heading into halftime. That period saw Trine connect on 63 percent of its 3-pointers, leading 36-19 at the break.

Reed went off in the second half, scoring 16 of her points in the final 20 minutes. Albion worked to close the gap, cutting Trine's lead to 11 with a jumper from Becca Ross. Immediately the Thunder answered at the other end with a triple, silencing the momentum. Ross scored 11 points for the Brits.

A valiant fourth quarter effort would not suffice, as Trine kept Albion at bay just enough to leave with the conference victory.

This marks the first time all season Albion has dropped two straight. They now stand at 13-4, 6-2 in the conference.

Backed by Reed and Dareonna Little, the Britons dominated the battle on the boards, scoring 16 second chance points.

Trine used their bench to their advantage, as their reserves outscored Albion's, 23-2.

Both teams forced each other into a half court game, combining for just nine fast break points.

Albion begins their second time around the league on Saturday, hosting Albion in the back half of a doubleheader. Tip off, following the men's game, is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
