Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

WBB holds Hope to season-low, unable to hold off No. 1 Flying Dutch

ALBION – Despite holding Hope College to a season-low 51 points,  the Albion College women's basketball team could not prevail in a 51-38 loss to the No. 1 Flying Dutch. The 51 points is the lowest Hope has tallied since Dec. 14, 2019 – also against the Britons.

Becca Ross was the only player on either team to finish in double figures, scoring 10 points off the bench. Sophomore Dareonna Little brought down a team-high eight boards for the Britons.

With Hope holding a 12-7 lead, Ross buried a three from the corner off a pass from Elena Welker. The two teams battled back and forth before the visitors held a 15-12 lead at halftime.

Hope led for almost the entirety of the second quarter before the Brits got a spark late. A steal and jumper in the paint from Cierra Cole brought Albion to within three points with 1:31 before the half. As time expired in the period, Lolo Reed sent Kresge Gymnasium into a frenzy by launching a buzzer-beater from half court, knotting the game at 22.

Albion gained a six point lead out of the half, but the visitors climbed back into the ball game. With the score tied at 33, the Flying Dutch knocked down a 3-pointer and took a 36-34 lead into the fourth quarter.

Holding the Brits to four points in the fourth, Hope inflated their lead and went on to pick up a road win.

Albion moves to 15-5 overall. The Britons committed 22 turnovers in the loss, while shooting a mere 25 percent from the field.

The Britons will be back in action on Wednesday at No. 4 Trine. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
