Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Alexander leads No. 19 volleyball past Oberlin

The junior had 13 kills, eight digs and three aces.

OBERLIN, Ohio – They just keep rolling.

Led by a balanced attack, the No. 19 Albion College volleyball team swept Oberlin College on Wednesday evening. The Britons now stand at an impressive 18-2 overall mark.

Outside hitter Olivia Alexander led the Albion offense with 13 kills. The junior added eight digs and three aces to her stat line.

Jesse Hepner chipped in with 10 kills. Chloe Webber (9) and Kaylynne Nicholson (7) were integral parts of the Albion offense as well. With 32 assists, Mariah Brenz had another good night dishing out the offense.

Up 16-13 in the first set, Albion used a 6-0 run to take a commanding 22-13 lead. In that run, the Britons got a pair of aces from their setter. Brenz later sealed the opening set victory with a kill, as Albion won the opener, 25-14.

In a much tighter back and forth second set, Albion took a 12-8 deficit and turned it into a 14-12 advantage. Two kills each from Nicholson and Hepner helped the Britons regain momentum and eventually take the middle set, 25-22.

The Brits found themselves trailing more than once in the third set. Oberlin broke out to a 6-2 lead and later led 12-9. Jenna Schienke's kill gave the ball back to the Britons, who rattled off four straight points to take a two point lead.

Leading 17-16, Albion's 7-0 run pushed the visitors ahead by a comfortable margin, before Alexander sent everyone home with her 13th kill of the evening.

Courtney Companion led the Albion defense with a team-best 16 digs. Schienke registered nine, playing six rotations for most of the evening.

Albion will play two more non conference foes this weekend – both OAC opponents. In a tri-match hosted by Heidelberg University, the Britons will take on the Student Princes and No. 20 Otterbein. Game times in Tiffin, Ohio are scheduled for 2 and 4 p.m.
