Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Companion's career day lifts No. 22 VB over UWRF

ELMHURST, Ill. – The No. 22 Volleybrits are coming home with a win.

After splitting two matches Friday night, the Albion College volleyball team picked up a 3-1 victory over Wisconsin-River Falls. In the win, junior libero Courtney Companion totaled her career-high with 25 digs, leading a solid defense.

Albion keeps adding to their memorable season, improving to 22-4 overall, as they officially wrap up non-conference action.

UWRF held a 19-16 lead in the first set. Undaunted, the Britons stormed back to score nine straight points and win 25-19. Outside Kaylynne Nicholson and middle Chloe Webber each recorded two kills in the run for Albion. The set ended with an ace from Companion, one of four from the junior.

An 8-0 run midway through the second set pulled UWRF ahead, the lone set they won by a 25-23 margin.

In the third, both teams had 23 points before the Britons prevailed, thanks to Webber and Mariah Brenz. A setter dump from Brenz followed by a Webber kill vaulted Albion to a 25-23 win to hold a one set lead.

Another late push by the Britons lifted them in the fourth set. Three straight aces off the right hand of Olivia Alexander gave Albion the lead – one they would not relinquish. Nicholson slammed a kill into the corner for match point, as Albion leaves Illinois 2-1 on the weekend.

The offense ran through Webber (14 kills), Alexander (12 kills) and Nicholson (11 kills). Brenz registered 43 assists in the win. Alexander notches her second straight double-double, adding 15 digs to her stat line.

With four aces, Companion now has 49 on the season – good for second most in school history.

On Wednesday, Albion heads to No. 3 Calvin. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
