Webber's sparkling night helps No. 23 VB sweep Comets

OLIVET, Mich. — It was total domination for the No. 23 Albion College volleyball team, defeating Olivet College in straight sets on Tuesday. The Britons – winners of three straight – won by 25-11, 25-14 and 25-6 margins. 

Albion improves to 16-2 overall, 3-1 in the MIAA. The Comets slip to 3-14, 1-2 in league play.

Leading Albion with a .607 hitting percentage was Chloe Webber. The fifth year senior had 17 kills on 28 attempts with no errors. Kaylynne Nicholson added seven kills for Albion (.462).

With 35 assists, Mariah Brenz had another solid night dishing out the offense. The junior added two kills, four blocks, an ace and a block. 

Junior libero Courtney Companion had 11 digs to lead the Briton defense. 

From the start, Albion was in control. After an Olivet point, the Brits went on a 7-0 run to hold a big lead early on. Three of Webber's kills came in that stretch to the set the tone from the middle early on. Holding a 15-5 lead, the Britons went on their second 7-0 run of the set – highlighted by two aces from Olivia Alexander for a 22-5 lead. 

It took some time for the Britons to find their momentum in the second set, but once they did, the visitors pulled away to a commanding 24-12 lead. Jesse Hepner had three kills in the set and finished the match with a game-high four total blocks. 

With Companion back to serve, Albion started the final set on a 9-0 run and never looked back. Freshman Lauren Creon sent the Brits home victorious with a kill to end the match quickly.

For the match, Olivet attacked in the negatives, committing 26 errors on 98 attempts. On the other end, Albion had one of their best games of the season, recording a .376 attack percentage – including a .464 mark in the final set. 

On Friday, Albion hosts Adrian College for Homecoming weekend. The game against the Bulldogs is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.
